National Cross Country Relays

The Olympians excellent form continued last weekend at the National Cross country relays held in the grounds of Cumbernauld House. This event attracts all the top runners in the country, and competition in the junior, senior and veteran categories is fierce. In the junior men’s race with the team of three being made up of one runner in the under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups, the club had two teams in both male and female categories.
In the junior male race, Callum Heirs ran a steady fast race and at the exchange was in 16th place. Craig McIntyre battled against strong runners to pass over to Matthew Graham in 22nd place. Matthew took up the challenge and quickly passed runners, setting the second fastest time for that leg, and getting the Olympians team to 10th place. The ‘B’ team of Scott Molloy, Scott Lawrie and Callum Pettigrew finished in 48th place.
In the junior female race, the club’s two teams were running in the middle of the field. The ‘A’ team – Clare Brown, Rachel Hayes and Lauren McIntyre – finished in 53rd place just ahead of Megan Stewart, Diane Ramsay and Alex Lamond.
The senior female team for the second week in a row had a strong run. AnnMarie McCaffrey exchanged to Susan Addison in 29th and between Susan and Marie McChord in the final leg, the team came 26th overall and 6th in the veteran category.
In the men’s race, without some of their top runners, David Gardner’s excellent run on the first leg (11th) and Allan Ramsay on the second (16th) left Robert Rogerson and Colin Burns with a challenge to keep the ‘A’ team in the top 30 places. The ‘B’ team was lead strongly by Gary Mitchell and they maintained 72nd place overall.
